Specialist editing: streamlining a set of standards for the Royal College of Psychiatrists (RCPsych). The client wanted to make their set of standards simpler – easier for mental health units to use and easier to maintain and update. Working with BSI’s standards experts and the RCPsych team, I reduced a large number of standards to a common core of two sets – in-patient care and community care. The streamlined set has removed duplication, making it much easier for providers to implement and for auditors to assess, It’s also helped to highlight areas of common practice and areas of key differences between the various mental health specialisms such as perinatal care and the care of young people.
